In his Bibliographia politica Naudé reviews in about one hundred pages authors and works that have dealt with politics, from the Antiquity to the first decades of the Seventeenth Century. In few enlightened pages on the ordinary and extraordinary administration of the State, Naudé elaborates his own idea of Reason of State, including the use of an extraordinary administration in the name of the public benefit. We can find a continuity between his Bibliographia politica and his Considérations politiques (...) sur les coups d’Estat. In both his political works Naudé gives to the category of wisdom, derived from Aristotle, a new practical and political value, which goes back to authors such as Machiavelli or Cardano, Lipsius or Charron. Naudé’s political wisdom uses dissimulation and any form of justice, also against common law, to act in extraordinary administration of the State or to carry out “coups d’État.”. (shrink)

An effective formalism is developed to handle decaying two-state systems. Herewith, observables of such systems can be described by a single operator in the Heisenberg picture. This allows for using the usual framework in quantum information theory and, hence, to enlighten the quantum features of such systems compared to non-decaying systems. We apply it to systems in high energy physics, i.e. to oscillating meson–antimeson systems. In particular, we discuss the entropic Heisenberg uncertainty relation for observables measured at different times at (...) accelerator facilities including the effect of \documentclass[12pt]{minimal} \usepackage{amsmath} \usepackage{wasysym} \usepackage{amsfonts} \usepackage{amssymb} \usepackage{amsbsy} \usepackage{mathrsfs} \usepackage{upgreek} \setlength{\oddsidemargin}{-69pt} \begin{document}$\mathcal{CP}$\end{document} violation, i.e. the imbalance of matter and antimatter. An operator-form of Bell inequalities for systems in high energy physics is presented, i.e. a Bell-witness operator, which allows for simple analysis of unstable systems. (shrink)

In this article, I examine Peter Morgan's TV series The Crown (2016–present) through the lens of Sartrean and Beauvoirian existentialism. I argue that the character of Queen Elizabeth II holds a special place in the royal family, as the monarch who demonstrates the compatibility of duty and tradition with existential freedom and authenticity. I also demonstrate the series’ commitment to breaking the illusion of inhumanity that the royal family tries to maintain, by showing that the royals are not out-of-reach ideals, (...) but humans who struggle to transcend their exceptionally binding facticity. As portrayed in The Crown, Queen Elizabeth's lucidity on her situation leads to honest introspection, which dispels any attempt at self-deception, and therefore prevents her from slipping into bad faith. Durante el proceso independentista rioplatense, el ejemplo de los Estados Unidos, país también independizado de un imperio mediante una revolución, estuvo presente de modo permanente en la prensa y en los discursos de la dirigencia rioplatense, en particular la de Buenos Aires. Este artículo rastrea esas apreciaciones a lo largo del cuarto de siglo que siguió a la revolución de 1810, cuando fueron abrumadoramente positivas. Autonomistas e independentistas, republicanos, federales, proteccionistas, todos pudieron referenciarse en los Estados Unidos. Pero las miradas (...) de admiración fueron más allá: el caso norteamericano pudo ser utilizado a su favor por grupos diferentes y para proyectos políticos muy distintos. Incluso los centralistas enemigos del federalismo encontraron en la experiencia estadounidense argumentos útiles. En 1831, un incidente en las islas Malvinas produjo un quiebre diplomático y prefiguró miradas menos favorables sobre los Estados Unidos. (shrink)

Few data exist regarding treatment with antipsychotics in forensic psychiatric patient populations with high social dangerousness. We performed a secondary analysis of 681 patients treated with at least one antipsychotic, extracted from a 1-year observational retrospective study, conducted on 730 patients treated in the Italian Residencies for Execution of Security Measures. We aimed at investigating antipsychotic polypharmacy and high dose/very high-dose antipsychotics, as well as the possible factors associated with such therapeutic regimens. High dose/very high-dose antipsychotics were defined as a (...) prescribed daily dose to WHO-defined daily dose ratio greater than 1.5 or 3.0, respectively. Binary logistic regression analysis was used in three models to test possible predictors of antipsychotic polypharmacy, high-dose antipsychotics, and very high-dose antipsychotic prescription. Antipsychotic polypharmacy resulted in n = 308 of the patients, n = 346 received high-dose antipsychotics, and n = 96 very high-dose antipsychotics. The multivariate analysis disclosed an association between antipsychotic polypharmacy and male gender : 2.75 and 95% CI: 1.34–5.65), long-acting injectable antipsychotic prescription, and aggressive behavior in REMS. High-dose antipsychotics were also associated with male gender, LAI antipsychotic prescription, and aggressive behavior in REMS. The use of antipsychotic polypharmacy and high-dose antipsychotics is frequent in the REMS population. These results might depend on regulatory and organizational aspects of the REMS system, including variability in structures, lack of a common model of care, and lack of stratified therapeutic security. The process learning for adults training joins in a space/time which can be considered as « communicative action ». Learning is for us a part of a space of sense referred to the notion of passage and thus process. It is well known today that one of its modalities, for adults as for children, leans on the imitation. On the other hand, the game of the interactions makes that the learnings are not passed on without an autonomous and mediate renegotiation (...) of the subjects (vicariant learning). This relation between the partners will base itself on characteristics which allow to understand the interpretation as a modality, an essential medium to an «emancipator learning». On that basis, the constructed knowledge, the knowledge in elaboration, engages a conversion of the look in the training for adults, but also that of the learner towards an empowerment of a subject and his emancipation. 'Common Pavilions' is based on an exhibition curated by Diener & Diener Architects within the 13th International Architecture Exhibition of the Venice Biennial in 2012. Architecture's social and cultural reality was the theme of the 2012 exhibition, titled Common Ground. Bringing the architectural significance of the 29 national pavilions to the attention of visitors, who usually do not really notice these buildings and their individual character and atmosphere when seeing an exhibition there, was the aim of the Common Pavilions project. (...) The celebrated Italian photographer Gabriele Basilico (1944 2013) has taken pictures of all the pavilions in the Giardini di Venezia. His masterful images are featured in large-format and lavish duotone printing. 30 authors from all 29 nations - architects, philosophers, and artists - have contributed short essays, writing on 'their' national pavilion, its history and its identity as a space for presenting art. Basilico's images and the essays merge into a rich and atmospheric panorama of what is probably the world's best known exhibition site. (shrink)

L’articolo analizza il nesso tra antropologia e giustizia nelle Lettere persiane di Montesquieu, articolando tre punti: che l’autore consideri egoista la natura umana; che temperi questo pessimismo antropologico con l’idea che l’educazione e le leggi siano strumenti efficaci per abituare gli uomini alla pratica della giustizia; che l’esercizio della giustizia da parte di ogni buon governo debba tener conto della natura umana e seguire un principio di economia della pena, al fine di salvaguardare la libertà dei cittadini.

Este ensaio teórico tem por objetivo analisar criticamente os confrontos entre uma filosofia do uso ou da apropriação, das coisas e da vida, através da leitura da História da sexualidade II: O uso dos prazeres de Michel Foucault. Surgem possibilidades ético-políticas da potência do uso para constituir projetos-de-vida a partir da teorização do uso, que abarca a reflexão acerca do momento oportuno de uso, do comedimento ao uso e da sua relação com a liberdade e a verdade. Por necessidade, momento (...) ou status inserido em regras formais de uso, a autogestão da vida, por vezes, gera uma luta consigo mesmo para resolução de problemas e alcançar objetivos. Portanto, o planejamento da vida é concedente de liberdade e emancipação. (shrink)
